COMMUNITY UPDATE: COVID-19 prevention reminders

Hello, fellow Hawks,

As UHCL’s director of emergency management, I want to congratulate you for the precautions you’ve taken against the spread of COVID-19. I’m pleased to say that our campus hasn’t endured any significant outbreaks. Unfortunately, though, there are indications that another surge of infections is underway, and the cooler weather and increase of indoor social interactions can increase the risk of exposure.

With that in mind, let me strongly urge you to continue your good habits.

  • Wash your hands.
  • Wear your mask.
  • Keep your distance.
  • Don’t go out if you’re ill.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms or have been exposed.
  • Report confirmed contacts and respect quarantine procedures.
  • Get a flu shot.

We know these safeguards are effective in preventing the transmission of COVID-19, but we have to practice them daily. I realize that a certain level of “pandemic fatigue” has set in, but these good habits can help keep you and everyone you encounter safe. And remember, while we may be fatigued, the virus is not.

I hope you will join me in renewing our mutual commitment to stay “STAY HEALTHY, HAWKS” and keep our university as safe and healthy as it can be.
