MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: UHCL Mourns Loss of Dr. Scott S. Richardson

Aug 3, 2022

Dear Colleagues, Students, and Friends,

I am deeply saddened to share with you that Dr. Scott S. Richardson, UH-Clear Lake’s Chief Diversity Officer and Title IX Coordinator, has passed away.  Our university, students, and profession have lost a thoughtful, respected, and steadfast leader.  Dr. Richardson’s voice was and will continue to be a guiding light for diversity, equity, inclusion, and what is just.  We are all fortunate to have benefitted from his service and care.  Personally, I am grateful not only for his service, but for his extraordinary compassion and dedication.

Our hearts go out to his children and family at this difficult time.  Please keep them in your thoughts and know that plans will commence immediately to recognize Dr. Richardson and offer support to his family. Information regarding these efforts and funeral/memorial services will be communicated as information becomes available.

As I often remind you in our time of sadness, the Office of Counseling Services can provide emotional support to students. Be sure to contact them at 281-283-2580 if you need assistance. For faculty and staff, we remind you about the comprehensive Employee-Assistance Program provided at no cost and offered by the University of Texas Employee Assistance Program. To access these valuable services, call 713-500-3327 or visit www.mylifevalues.com with the username UHS and password UHS.

As we begin a new school year, let us do all we can to work toward the ideals and objectives that we all share with Dr. Richardson.

Sincerely,

Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
