MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: Passing of Sheila Bottos

Dear UHCL Community:

With much sadness, I share the news of the passing of Ms. Sheila Bottos. Sheila was a member of our UH-Clear Lake family for more than nine years and had become a familiar and friendly face to all.

Sheila joined UH-Clear Lake in 2012 as a transit driver within the Office of Student Life and drove until the shuttle service was transferred to Parking and Transportation. After the transfer, she transitioned to become a customer service representative for the department. As a customer service representative, Sheila would always greet the customers with a smile and connect with them personally while resolving the issues that prompted them to call. She cared for and loved all the students she interacted with and often considered them her own children. She loved spending time with the student workers and would give them her life story and advice whenever needed.

I offer my condolences to the Bottos family and all who knew and loved her. As I often remind you in our time of sadness, the Office of Counseling Services can provide emotional support to students. Be sure to contact them at 281-283-2580 if you need assistance. For faculty and staff, we remind you about the comprehensive Employee-Assistance Program provided at no cost and offered by the University of Texas Employee Assistance Program. To access these valuable services, call 713-500-3327 or toll-free at 1-800-346-3549.

Memorial services are pending and the family will communicate details as it develops later this fall. Those who wish to memorialize Sheila through a gift highlighting her legacy may contact the Office of University Advancement at 281-283-2021.

Sincerely,

Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
President
