MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Announcement

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Christopher Maynard has agreed to serve as the Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, effective Tuesday, September 7.

Dr. Maynard, who has held several progressively responsible positions in academic affairs, most recently served as the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Sam Houston State University. Before that, he served as both the Vice Provost and Associate Vice Provost. Dr. Maynard has experience in collaborative leadership, strategic vision, integrative organization and administrative oversight of campus-wide programs, services and operations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Maynard has had many notable accomplishments. At Sam Houston State University, he developed the post-pandemic academic operations plan and was a champion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives. He also created the Faculty Administrative Fellows program, which provides opportunities for administrative experience to faculty from underrepresented groups.

Dr. Maynard earned a doctoral degree in U.S. Political and Diplomatic history with a minor in Latin American History and Political Communication from Louisiana State University. His other academic attainments include a Master of Arts in History from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Lee University.

We are pleased to have Dr. Maynard join the leadership team at UH-Clear Lake and look forward to his contributions in supporting the University’s mission in service to our students, faculty, and the city of Houston.
