‘Mission: Excellence’ student leadership and career development conference launches Nov. 13

UHCL’s Student Involvement and Leadership and Career Services offices are hosting the annual Student Leadership and Career Development Conference Nov. 13.

The conference will be free for all UHCL students who register. For other college and university students, the cost of attendance is $65 for those who pre-register by Nov. 3 and $85 at the door.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 6:15 p.m., followed by a networking mixer. The conference will feature 16 different session blocks, offering a choice between leadership sessions, career development sessions, or a mix of both. Attendees will be able to choose four sessions out of the 16 different blocks to cater to their preferences.

The keynote speakers opening and closing the conference include Joshua Fredenburg, author and motivational speaker, and Lillian Davenport, leadership and career strategist. UHCL staff including Aaron Hart, vice president of student affairs, David Rachita, dean of students, and Iliana Melendez, associate dean of students will also present sessions.

The conference will feature a panel with employers from the Houston area. The conference will also give students the opportunity to have employers review and critique their resumes for improvements.

“I think this is one of the most important events to attend when you are a college student at UHCL,” said Dillon Nash, assistant director of Student Involvement and Leadership. “There are just so many fundamental skills that employers are looking for that we will be giving away for free to UHCL students…this experience is one that shouldn’t be missed.”

Nash explained that the conference is also open to students from all Texas colleges and universities.

“We open it up to all Texas colleges and universities because we know that this conference is great and we primarily want UHCL students there but we also want to show other colleges and universities the good work that we are doing,” said Nash. “We are giving them a taste of what UHCL has to offer”
