GALLERY: EF3 Rated Tornado rips through Deer Park

A tornado, classified as an EF3 level, hit southeast Texas Tuesday, January 24 at 2:49 p.m. Areas affected by the tornado include Baytown, Pasadena and Deer Park. A retirement home in Deer Park, containing 63 people, had to be evacuated by the city’s first responders and mutual aid from surrounding areas. There was an American Red Cross shelter set up at a Pasadena community center, Baker Ripley, on Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena. The city of Deer Park acknowledged a damaged Center Point transmission feed on its official website in a press release about tornado damages and efforts to clean up the city and restore power.  Wednesday, January 25, 24 Center Point Crews were scheduled to begin repairs to the Pasadena and Deer Park area’s power starting at 6 a.m. Approximately 70,000 people lost power in these 2 areas. Some residents and businesses did not have power for up to 5 days. Classes in the damaged areas were canceled for the remainder of the week and resumed the following Monday after power was restored and the buildings were deemed safe.
