UHCL Alumni Association seeks nominations for awards
Nominate an outstanding University of Houston-Clear lake alumnus/alumna for one of the UHCL Alumni Association’s Awards. April 30 is the deadline to nominate someone for the Distinguished Alumni, Early Achievement, Leaderships Service or Outstanding Professor Awards.

Distinguished Alumni Awards honor UHCL graduates who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers have brought credit to the university, while the Early Achievement Awards recognize a UHCL alumna/alumnus, age 45 or younger, for significant accomplishments in business or professional life, or for service to the university and/or the UHCL Alumni Association. Alumni, whose exceptional contributions to UHCL and its community strengthen and support the values and the mission of the university, are honored with the Leadership Service Awards. Finally, the Outstanding Professor Award recognizes UHCL professors who embody the fulfillment of learning and discovery by utilizing innovative teaching methods to inspire students and building a sense of community among students through active involvement with student organizations, shared governance and mentoring.

Immigrant stories presented in ‘Harvest of Empire’
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Film and Speaker Series will present the feature-length documentary “Harvest of Empire,” a film that examines the role of U.S. economic and military interest that triggered the immigration crisis that faces the nation today, scheduled for April 20, 7 p.m., in the Student Services and Classroom Building, Lecture Hall.

Featured speaker is Francisco Arguelles, an advocate for immigrant rights who has worked with several key local and national organizations.

Based on the groundbreaking book by award-winning journalist and Democracy Now! Co-host Juan González and produced by Onyx Films, the film features immigrant stories and interviews with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Rigoberta Menchú, Reverend Jesse Jackson, ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero and many more.

Registration for summer Kids U classes open
Enhance your child’s learning this summer with fun classes from Kids U, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Educational Program that offers a multitude of classes to choose from, held on various dates and times in June and July at UHCL’s Arbor Building.

Created for children from pre-K through 12th grade, camps for 2013 include Early Childhood, Young Writers, Science, World Explorers, Math Camp, Technology, Brain Power, Language and Gifted Academy with classes like “Video Game Design,” “Intro to Claymation” and “Scientific Reasoning.” Children get in-depth, hands-on learning experiences unique to each camp. Multi-age groups in limited-sized classes provide environments for amazing accomplishments.

Recruiting receptions set for marketing, finance
Learn about career opportunities in the marketing or financial industry by attending the University of Houston-Clear Lake marketing recruiting reception scheduled for April 23, 5 – 7 p.m., or the finance recruiting reception scheduled for April 25, 5 – 7 p.m. Both events are sponsored by the university’s Office of Career Services, and will be held in the Bayou Building, Atrium I.
