Hawk blows the whistle on lab rats

I think the intelligence of the rats is being underestimated. They are extremely smart and it’s unlikely they’re starving. It seems more likely that the rat has to figure out how to get to a particular food source, just as a wild rat would and does. True to the nature and intelligence of the rat, they figure it out. They’re so smart that they figure it out quickly so that the process of getting to the food source has to be made increasingly complex. That is what makes them excellent subjects particularly suited to the objective of the lesson.
