Cristina Henríquez visits campus

Cristina Henríquez, author of The Book of Unknown Americans, will be bringing “The Overlooked Immigrant” event to UHCL Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. A book signing will follow the event. There will also be a reception afterward hosted by the Office of Orientation and New Student Programs.

Henríquez will talk about her novel and what it is like to be an immigrant. First-year students are required to read this book through the Common Reader Program. The book covers topics such as mental health, immigration, racism and class differences.

“The Common Reader Program provides a platform for conversation to get started between students, staff and faculty,” said Wanalee Romero director of the First-Year Seminar Program and faculty in humanities and Latina/o and Latin American studies.
