UHCL HR degree ranks among top online programs in U.S.

University of Houston-Clear Lake Master of Arts in Human Resource Management online degree program has been ranked among the Best Online Human Resource Degrees by College Choice.

Offered through the university’s College of Business, the online program was ranked sixth among 40 universities from all over the country, with programs from Pennsylvania State University, Villanova University and Colorado State University taking the top three spots, respectively.

“It’s quite an achievement for the college, given that we’re in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S.,” said Dean of the College of Business Ted Cummings. “Our faculty are well-published and have remained very active in the human resource management field, so that has definitely elevated the program for our students.”

According to College Choice, several factors decided the rankings including academic reputation, financial aid options, overall cost of attendance and the success of graduates.

These criteria were considered equally in conjunction with data from the U.S. News & World Report, the National Center for Education Statistics and PayScale.com, a company that analyzes compensation data for individuals and employers.

“This recognition validates the hard work of the faculty and the quality of our students and the reputation they have in the resource management community,” said Kevin Wooten, faculty chair of the department of management and professor of management.

UHCL’s online degree in human resource management is one of 22 online degree programs and certifications, which have grown in number at the university since 2008 with the rise of online education.

“We have many students who cannot come to campus to attend traditional face-to-face classes. Being recognized as a quality degree program gives them more options for their education,” said Wooten, noting the importance of online education at UHCL.

UHCL’s degree in human resource management focuses on targeted competency areas that provide students with core knowledge to understand human resources processes, business management and change management. After graduation, students are ready to enter the job market as HR specialists, labor relations managers, recruiters or training specialists.
