REVIEW: Emerging pop artist Carlie Hanson makes stop in Houston

Indie-pop American artist, Carlie Hanson, made her final stop as an opener for rapper and record producer Gnash in Houston Jan. 6. Hanson, an 18-year-old singer and songwriter from rural Wisconsin brought her melody and catchy jams to House of Blues Houston.

Hanson began writing songs when she was in middle school, but it was not until 2017 that she came to the spotlight. After posting cover videos on Instagram for a while, she was approached by a producer in Canada who brought to life her successful singles, “Why Did You Lie” and “Only One.”

Given the singles’ success, Hanson was invited to be an opener for Troyer Sivan’s “Bloom” tour, and also gained the endorsement of the one and only, Taylor Swift.

Hanson has now over 60 million plays and 900,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Hanson’s performance at the House of Blues gave a lot to talk about. The room was filled with an audience eager to see Gnash hit the stage with Hanson’s vibe and groovy tunes setting the tone for the one of a kind night.

She began with her hit, “Why Do You Lie,” followed by “Toxins” and “Only One.” Overall, the young pop star in the making was energetic and down to earth.

Hanson has somewhat of an Ellie Goulding/Halsey vibe with a touch of young Avril Lavigne. Hanson may not be on Times Square screens or LA billboards just yet, but this young artist is someone to keep an eye on.
