The Regrettes are a power pop-rock band with an empowering punk attitude and pastel aesthetic. Their upcoming album “How Do You Love?” releases Aug. 9 and they are embarking on a North American tour in anticipation of its release playing at Houston’s House of Blues Bronze Peacock Lounge July 24.

Frontwoman Lydia Night answered some questions about the upcoming album, tour and sources of inspiration for her music.

Q: Who is opening for you on your upcoming tour?

A: We’re touring with the band Hot Flash Heat Wave, who I’ve only heard rad things about. They seem like really cool guys. It’s always really exciting going on a headlining tour and getting to pick who opens for you because it’s such a cool relationship that you get to build with someone.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about the tour?

A: Meeting people at our shows and experiencing the cities we’ve never played in.

Q: Have you played Houston before?

A: We have, it’s funny my grandparents live in Houston so I always love going to Houston because I get to spend time with them so I’m very excited.

Q: People describe your music in a variety of ways spanning across various genres. How would you describe it to someone who has never heard it?

A: We write very raw and honest songs. Our new music is kind of different from our old, overall we’re like a fun rock band and we’re kind of going more into the power pop realm of things I think with this new album, which is exciting for me because I love that kind of music.

Q: Which artist(s) has had the greatest impact on your life/work and why?

A: So many, I mean The Ramones were the first band I was hooked on. Hole was a huge band for me in a big breaking point in my music taste. Joan Jett was also really big for me when I was younger. There are so many, Buddy Holly, I went through a huge Buddy Holly phase and that changed a lot of the way that I wrote. Now, The Replacements and The Exploding Hearts are so inspiring to me and I could go on and on but those are the ones that come to mind first, so we’ll go with those.

Q: What is your favorite non-musical artistic medium and why?

A: I love film and television, my favorite movie is this movie called “Love Me If You Dare” I have a few but that’s my favorite overall. It’s this insanely beautiful french film that I just think is so underrated and so fucking good.

Q: Your new album “How Do You Love?” releases in August, what can listeners expect?

A: There’s a story involved and that’s something pretty new from our last album.” “There’s a story and there’s also kind of a different overall tone and musically it’s different, we experimented more and it’s more intricate and there’s just lots of different things throughout it.

Q: Is this a concept album?

A: Yes, and I am so excited about having one now.

Q: Are there going to be more music videos to accompany the upcoming record?

A: I sure hope so! We’re working on it!

Q: Is there anything I haven’t asked that you’d like our audience to know?

A: Listen to our new album and listen in order!
