SGA Recap: 4/13/2021

The April 13 SGA meeting began at 11:34 a.m.  

Hiba Loya, SGA president, counted quorum. Loya said that 12 student organizations need to be present to meet quorum. 22 student organizations were present. 

Loya said the SGA 2021-2022 applications are extended. The deadline to apply is April 15 at 12 p.m. Visit Get Involved for more information.

Loya discussed the importance of Ramadan. Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. During Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. 

Loya announced that the last SGA meeting is April 20. 

Bianca Schonberg, the executive director for education abroad discussed the international accident and sickness medical insurance fee request. Loya asked attendees if they were in support of the fee request. 29 people voted in support. 

Mark Denney, the vice president of administration and finance discussed the optional fee increase proposal for the UHCL dining plans. Loya asked attendees if they were in favor of the fee increase proposal. 24 people voted in support. 2 people voted against it. 

Loya discussed the environmentally conscious organization. If interested in joining this organization, reach out to Loya.  

Derek Delgado, SGA vice president committee coordinator discussed committee student representative report cards.

Delgado said the 2021 orientation leader applications are extended. The deadline to apply is April 16. Visit Get Involved for more information. 

 Alina Thomas, the peer advisor for student involvement and leadership discussed the student leadership awards. The deadline to submit names is May 12. Visit Get Involved for more information.

Thomas announced that the spirit squad won the heart of a hawk champion cup. 

 Thomas discussed the student advisory council campus store. This council provides feedback and recommendations for the campus bookstore. The next meeting is June 15 at 2:30 p.m. on Microsoft Teams.
