COMMUNITY UPDATE: IHAPS executive director announced

Dear UHCL Faculty, Staff and Students:

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Megan Topham has been selected as the new executive director of the Institute for Human and Planetary Sustainability (IHAPS). She brings over 17 years of progressive experience with increasing responsibility in higher education and has provided strategic direction to various university leadership teams.

In this new role at University of Houston-Clear Lake, one of Dr. Topham’s priorities will be to help establish relationships in the community that will help secure funding to make IHAPS sustainable. She also hopes to advance a scholarship of practice in sustainability where practitioners and scholars work together.

IHAPS’ goals involve promoting innovative solutions and sustainable outcomes to global challenges through a multi-disciplinary approach, bringing social, economic, environmental and educational perspectives to the forefront. As the Institute’s executive director, Dr. Topham will execute these goals to encourage collaboration among the university’s four colleges.

Dr. Topham earned her Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Public Policy, Sustainability, her M.S. in Information Systems, and her B.B.A. in Management — all from The University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to joining the UHCL team, she was an assistant professor of public administration and real estate development at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was also the campus director of UTA Forth Worth 17 years prior.

Dr. Topham will assume her new position on May 3. Please join me in welcoming her to UH-Clear Lake and encouraging her as she leads IHAPS to enhance the university’s efforts in sustainability.

Sincerely,

Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
President
