COMMUNITY UPDATE: UHCL Food Distribution – December 10, 2021

The Diplomacy Institute (DI), in partnership with Qatar Charity, was able to help alleviate food insecurity among the most impoverished communities and families in the greater Houston area through a series of food distributions in collaboration with various community organizations. After a successful run, we would like to return to the place where our Shared Commitment to Humanityinitiative launched: UH-Clear Lake.

In a continued effort to give back to our community, we will be distributing the limited remaining food boxes on December 10, 2021, from the Global Learning and Strategy office in Bayou Building 2123 between 10 am – 5 pm. We are inviting all UHCL students, staff, and faculty to stop by and collect a box(es) for their families or fellow community members in need. All 30 pound boxes of food contain a wide variety of non-perishable balanced meals.

As of November 29th, DI and its partner organizers have distributed over 5,500 boxes of food to feed thousands of disadvantaged individuals and families throughout the greater Houston area. Our diverse range of community organizations includes the University of Houston System, the City of Pearland, Catholic Charities, Lone Star College Houston North, the City of Houston in cooperation with Houston City Council Member Letitia Plummer, the Alief Vietnamese Alliance Church, and countless local community members.

Lastly, we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the unsung heroine of our Commitment to Humanity initiative, UH-Clear Lake’s own, Ms. Lea Black. Veterans and elementary students were able to enjoy meals due to Ms. Black’s dedicated efforts to deliver boxes across the Clear Lake community.

Individuals requiring assistance to transport boxes or need to arrange a different pickup date will need to contact the Diplomacy Institute via email at DiplomacyInstitute@UHCL.edu at least 3 days prior to make arrangements.
