UHCL Art School for Children receives Kinder Morgan Foundation grant

The Kinder Morgan Foundation donates over a million dollars each year to youth programs, and this year they have awarded UHCL’s Art School for Children and Young Adults a grant for offering art classes to Bay Area kids. Kinder Morgan is an energy company that has several sites in the Houston area and has assets all along the Texas Gulf Coast, so the Kinder Morgan Foundation offers opportunities that encourage local youth to excel in STEM fields as well as artistic pursuits. With this grant, the Art School will offer classes at local elementary schools.

UHCL’s Art School for Children and Young Adults is a community outreach program that teaches art to local kids in Pre-K through 12th grade age groups. Students work with different media from crayon and marker to paint and sculpture. Art School classes and workshops are taught by David Moya, director of the Art School for Children, as well as other certified teachers and university students.

Classes on campus are held in the Arbor Building, just look for the students’ framed art pieces proudly displayed in the hallway. The UHCL Art School for Children and Young Adults can be reached by email at childrensart@UHCL.edu or you can call 281-283-3344.
