RECAP: SGA meeting highlights upcoming events and domestic violence awareness

The Oct. 20 SGA meeting began at 11:34 a.m.

There were no new  fund requests but Hiba Loya reminded students that quorum must be met to move forward with fund requests.

Loya told students SGA is hosting a Candlelight Vigil to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence. The vigil will be Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Alumni Plaza, following social distancing guidelines.

Loya asked for feedback on the town halls SGA has been hosting. Lisa Jatta spoke up and said she is glad it is happening.

VP of Outreach and Communication and VP of Administration positions are still available.

Brian Mills, director of Campus Recreation and Wellness, spoke about their Halloween Fest. It will be a free event and students and employees can bring up to three guests, if more, they can provide it on the RSVP link and email Campus Recreation and Wellness about the situation. He also encouraged students orgs to volunteer. RSVP to the event here.

Mills also mentioned some closure dates for Campus Recreation and Wellness. Nov. 2 both basketball courts will be closed. Nov. 3. they will close all day for voting along with Thanksgiving and winter break.

He added that they are planning their spring 2021 programming and asked students for feedback and ideas.

Alina Thomas, peer advisor from the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, spoke about the Leadership Experience Development Series (L.E.D.S.) workshop. She encouraged students to attend the workshops.

Open forum began.

Katherine Ranton, president of PsyDucks, asked about SGA accepting fund requests for online conferences which Loya said yes to.

Chrystelle Perales from Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority Inc. asked about the Student Organization Center and Lounge, which Patrick Cardenas said the Student Organization Center and Lounge is open. 

Marissa Kepple from CPSA asked if SGA could remind organizations to attend so they can meet quorum. 

Yessenia Peraza from Tribeta asked if there had been a meeting with 43 organizations. Loya responded with no. 

Chrystelle Perales from Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority Inc. asked if today’s agenda had been uploaded to GetInvolved. Loya said she will be uploading when the meeting ends.

Aravindh Shakthi Shanmugam from the Indian Student Association asked if SGA is available at the SSCB, to which Loya responded saying no unless SGA is needed for an in person meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:04pm.
