SGA Recap: 2/2/2021

SGA announces new vice president committee coordinator

The Feb. 2 SGA meeting began at 11:39 a.m. 

Alina Thomas, peer advisor in Office of Student Involvement (OSIL) counted student representatives to check quorum. 22 were present. 

SGA President Hiba Loya announced Derek Delgado as the new SGA Vice President Committee Coordinator.

If one is interested in serving on a committee and/or interested in a vice president position, contact Delgado. 

Since SGA has not met quorum, the executive council decided to table voting on constitutional amendments.

Loya announced that new SGA senators. There is still availability if students would like to become an SGA senator. 

The open forum began, and Loya asked attendees if they had any questions, comments and/or concerns. 

One student brought up concerns with the status of Black Student Association (BSA).

Firoj Gurung, the coordinator of international programs said that if any organization needs support and/or help with events, to reach out to him. 

 One student asked for an update on the spring 2021 commencement ceremony. Patrick Cardenas, director of OSIL said that the commencement planning committee has not met yet. Cardenas will contact the Registrar about the commencement program and will share an update on the commencement ceremony at next week’s SGA meeting, Feb. 9. 

Dillon Nash, assistant director of OSIL said there are exciting leadership and engagement opportunities coming to the OSIL. One of the events Nash mentioned was The Big Event. Event details are forthcoming. 

Loya encourages student organizations to come to the weekly SGA meetings to meet quorum.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:06 p.m.
