BRIEF: Counseling Services hosts International Student Support Group

The International Student Support Group was a virtual group that offered a space for international students to discuss different topics regarding their mental health while living and studying in the United States. Counseling Services’ doctoral intern, Siming Xie, hosted the group.

“Siming uses the space to support and provide psycho-education to students [and discusses] topics such as: coping with homesickness, managing mental health and stress, coping with the pandemic, and facing discrimination,” said Shavonne Fuller, staff psychologist at Counseling Services. “Siming’s own experiences as an international student helps cultivate this brave space of sharing as he demonstrates a deepened level of empathy and care for our students.”

The four-part series included different conversation topics for students to talk about. The last meeting was April 30 from noon to 1 p.m. and focused on facing discrimination.
