COMMUNITY UPDATES: Christopher A. Maynard Appointed Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

The following was sent as a message from UHCL president Richard Walker.

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher A. Maynard, Ph.D., as University of Houston-Clear Lake’s next Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost after an extensive national search.

Dr. Maynard brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education to UH-Clear Lake. For the past nine months, he has served as Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at UHCL, providing strategic leadership for the Division of Academic Affairs and oversight of the academic standards and mission of the university. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Maynard spent four years working in the provost’s office at Sam Houston State University and has held several progressively responsible positions in academic affairs. I believe that Dr. Maynard’s extensive administrative experience, emphasis on collaboration, focus on building and stewardship of resources, and calm and congenial demeanor will positively impact our university for years to come.

Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Maynard earned a doctoral degree in U.S. Political and Diplomatic History with minors in Latin American History and Political Communication from Louisiana State University. His other academic attainments include a Master of Arts in History from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Lee University.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Search Committee, Co-Chairs Joe Staley, Vice President for University Advancement, and Christine Walther, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology, and the Anthem Executive search firm who worked diligently through the past several months. I want to extend my gratitude to the faculty, staff and students who participated in the on-campus forums and provided feedback to the committee.
