The Sustainable Stories Film Fest is a festival encompassing film and art. The festival is currently seeking submissions from the UHCL and local communities.

The festival is a collaboration between different departments at UHCL including the College of Human Sciences and HumanitiesUHCL Art Gallery and Institute for Human and Planetary Sustainability.

“It’s really nice how this festival came out of something that I started a couple of years ago, how that really fits the strategic plan of the university,” said Michael Brims, associate professor of communication and digital media. “Because sustainability and sustainable stewardship is a core value.”

Brims explained that the festival can serve as an opportunity for emerging filmmakers. The festival gives students the ability to add to their portfolios and resumes as well as get their work showcased.

“As a filmmaker, student filmmaker or not only filmmaker as an artist, these venues for emerging artists, emerging filmmakers to get your work seen, but they don’t always come easy,” Brims said. “Sometimes we as creatives have to work hard to get our work into a gallery, show or into a screening.”

Those interested in submitting short films – films under seven minutes – should submit them through Film Freeway by Oct. 15, and those interested in submitting pieces for the gallery show can submit them through the same link or by emailing brims@uhcl.edu by Oct. 15.
