University Life Committee Smoking Policy Poll Results

Thank you for participating in the University Life Committee’s Smoking Policy Poll. Voting ended March 16th, and the results follow.

Out of the 1180 votes cast, we received:

561 votes (47.5%) for a smoke-free campus

466 votes (39.5%) for a smoke-free campus except for officially posted designated smoking areas (our current smoking policy)

153 votes (13%) for a smoke-free campus except in parking lots

Based on this response, which does not show an overriding mandate for change to the current smoking policy, the University Life Committee has decided to end our review of the smoking policy without suggesting further changes. In the future the ULC may decide to reexamine the issue, based on changes in campus culture/events.

If you are unsure as to the current smoking policy and the location of the Designated Smoking Areas, please follow this link, which will take you to the ULC’s webpage:
