BRIEF: SGA President Hiba Loya enjoys membership with Houston Mayor’s Student Leadership Alliance

SGA president Hiba Loya is a member of the Houston Mayor’s Student Leadership Alliance (MSLA).

The alliance consists of student representatives from higher education institutions in Houston. Members work with the mayor of Houston’s Office of Education. Their work consists of advocating for students and supporting their interests.

Loya said the SGA president of UHD contacted her to consider joining the alliance. Loya officially joined the MSLA in August 2020 after being interviewed by (whoever interviewed her at the system level).

Loya said she enjoys being part of the organization and that it is an opportunity to meet like minded individuals across the Houston area.

“I think students should join if they are interested in working with the Mayor’s Office of Education,” she said. “We get to connect with new people and strengthen our network. We even had a meeting with the mayor.”
